VCMI’s goal is to ensure voluntary carbon markets make a significant and meaningful contribution to climate action and limiting global temperature from rising to 1.5C above pre-industrial levels, while supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
VCMI is an umbrella initiative that will connect key stakeholders and initiatives that share VCMI’s vision for high integrity VCMs, to align and amplify efforts. Through consultation with stakeholders from civil society, the private sector, Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and governments, VCMI intends to develop and communicate guidance on how carbon credits can be voluntarily used and claimed by businesses and others as part of credible net zero greenhouse gas strategies. It also engages countries to support development of strategies to access VCMs to drive ambitious climate mitigation.
Three reasons to attend:
- Gain key insights from the Consultation Report we are launching at the event
- Find out how to engage in our global consultation process through to COP26 in November
- Hear from a range of expert perspectives across government, business and civil society
After the event, stakeholders will be invited to provide feedback on the VCMI Consultation Report Aligning Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCMs) with the 1.5˚C Paris Agreement Ambition which will be published immediately prior to the global launch on the VCMI website.
