Text recommendations to operationalize sustainable development provisions

Dialogue forum presents Policy Briefs

September 2018 - The so-called “rulebook” to operationalise the Paris Agreement is scheduled to be adopted by COP 24 in Katowice (Poland) this December. This also includes a regulatory framework for the cooperative approaches laid down in Article 6 of the Agreement. In order to analyse stakeholder views on operationalising sustainable development (SD) provisions for Article 6, the Sustainable Development Dialogue (SDD) hosted a series of six roundtable discussions throughout 2018.

The aim of the Sustainable Development Dialogue, which is facilitated by the Gold Standard and the UNEP DTU Partnership with support from Belgium, Germany, Liechtenstein, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland, is to explore Party and stakeholder views on options to assist with implementation of the sustainable development provisions for Article 6. Based on technical work, research and analysis, options for guidance, rules, modalities and procedures to operationalise the Article 6 sustainable development provisions are presented and discussed with Parties and stakeholders in advance of COP24 in Katowice.

The SDD has now compiled six policy briefs that summarise its discussions. Each brief outlines a key issue, provides considerations relevant to Article 6 and puts forward text recommendations for provisions in Article 6. Views stated in the documents are those of the authors and do not represent any consensus among the Parties involved.
